Rats may not be the only wildlife residing at the Bedford Park Boulevard subway station, according to straphangers. Raccoons apparently are now calling the station home.
Some residents say they see raccoons every day, sometimes rummaging through the trash, raising concerns that they might be rabid.
The NYC Health Department says that the raccoons aren't rabid and can be controlled through measures such as installing raccoon-proof trash cans.
