A rally Tuesday got heated over whether or not an East New York smoke shop should be allowed to operate across the street from a school.
Pink Leaves opened in July across from I.S. 218, which houses a junior/senior high school, as well as a charter school. Some people in the community say they don't need another smoke shop, adding that it brings negativity to the area.
The owner of Pink Leaves says he opened his business because he wanted to bring a smoke shop to the neighborhood.
Some community members at the rally say the business is legal and has a right to be in the area.
However, parents and school officials say kids have enough peer pressure on social media without having a smoke shop across the street.
