A rally was held at a Williamsburg subway station Tuesday to support a subway singer who claims he was wrongfully arrested.
Andrew Kalleen was arrested last Friday on the southbound platform of the G train and charged with loitering. The arrest was caught on video. Kalleen says the officer told him he was not allowed to be performing on the platform. Kalleen says the MTA does not require permits and he was allowed to sing.
According to the MTA rules of conduct, "The following nontransit uses are permitted by the Authority, provided they do not impede transit activities...artistic performances, including the acceptance of donations."
Kalleen says he will be suing the NYPD. A spokesperson for the NYPD says they are aware of the incident and it is under investigation.
