Bronx residents say that applying for housing through the city’s lottery system, Housing Connect, can be confusing and discouraging. But you can hit the lotto with one-on-one support through the
Ready to Rent program.
You can get hands-on guidance through the entire process - from finding the buildings you’re eligible for to getting all the correct documents. It’s particularly helpful for older New Yorkers or those who are less tech-savvy, given the website’s frequent reported glitches. One Bronxite tells News 12 the program got him into his dream senior living facility.
Organizations, like the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC), allow for walk-ins and appointments, free of charge.
Visit their office at 3101 Kingsbridge Terrace or call them at 718-884-0700.
KHCC isn’t the only group that can help. Visit the
program site for other organizations.
