Red Hook beautifies its storm barriers keeping residents safe

Barriers that help protect communities from storm surges in case a natural disaster or extreme weather strike has a new look in Red Hook.

Barriers that help protect communities from storm surges in case a natural disaster or extreme weather strike has a new look in Red Hook. 
Photos are now up along a mile-long stretch across the flood barriers of Red Hook They were taken by up-and-coming student photographers involved in the Red Hook Criminal Justice Center Program, and many of the images up on display were taken throughout the city.  
At the Atlantic Basin site, the walls are a newer addition, despite 56 sites across the five boroughs already having similar walls that protect the area from hurricane storm surges. 
The Office of Emergency Management and Red Hook Criminal Justice Center are encouraging more photographers to get involved in projects like this. Click here to learn more
