? Red Hook is set to become a major player in the city?s cruise ship industry.
The Queen Mary 2, the world?s largest passenger ship, will dock at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal Saturday carrying some 2,200 travelers. The Queen Mary 2 will make a total of 11 visits to New York City this year. Mayor Michael Bloomberg (R-NYC) upgraded Manhattan?s Upper West Side terminal and opened the new Brooklyn pier to keep the industry thriving.
Supporters believe the port is the starting point on which the borough can build and become a tourist destination. Critics fear the cruise ships will bring more traffic and some complain they have been unable to find work at the new terminal.
