The Red Hook Pool reopened to the public on Sunday after months of repairs held up its opening back in June. The Parks Department said a broken pipe was the hold up. "Back in the end of June, when we filled the pool and started circulating it...we had a major pipe just basically disintegrate," said Mark Focht, Acting First Deputy Commissioner of the NYC Parks Department. Community members we're able to enjoy the Olympic-sized pool they said they've had been anxiously anticipating. "I feel very happy. This is like, my favorite pool ever," said Lily, a girl who says she's been coming to the pool since she was 4 years old. "It feels nice because we didn't have no pool to go to," said April Devaughn, a Red Hook native. The Parks Department said it's been working tirelessly for the last seven weeks to make the reopening possible, which fell on a very special day. "Interestingly, today, August 17 is the 89th anniversary of the opening of this pool...so 89 years ago today, this pool opened and here we're reopening it today to the community," Focht said. The Red Hook pool, along with all New York City outdoor pools, will be open until Sept. 7. Pools are open seven days a week between 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.with a break for cleaning between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Click here to learn more.
