? Red Hook?s waterfront is coming alive again with the construction of a new supermarket and more businesses planned.
Red Hook?s second grocery store, a new Fairway, will occupy a 150-year-old warehouse at the end of Van Brunt Street. The store will bring an estimated 300 new jobs to the area and even house a café with a view of the Statue of Liberty. Apartment buildings will be built above the new grocery store. Residents say it?s a sign of more good things to come in an area that has been neglected.
Critics worry development will hurt smaller businesses and bring more traffic.
