A religious statue of St. Theresa has been stolen from the front yard of a woman's Borough Park home, and other people in the area say this isn't the first theft of its kind in the neighborhood.
Denise Giorgi says she reported the theft to police about a week after Halloween when she noticed the statue was missing from the front yard of her house on 61st Street. Giorgi says the statue had been there for over 30 years, and her 64-year-old mother is distraught over its disappearance.
Monsignor David Cassato, of St. Athanasius Church where Giorgi and her family worship, says a few of his parishioners have reported similar thefts in the past few weeks. Police say they are investigating the thefts, but so far, no arrests have been made.
