It looks like Coney Island will be able to call itself the home of Astroland for a bit longer. The amusement park was scheduled to be shut down this year after Labor Day for the area's redevelopment. A report in the New York Post says that City Councilman Domenic Recchia Jr. (D-Brooklyn) has struck a deal with Thor Equities to let the park stay through the summer of 2008.Thor Equities purchased the land in 2006 for $30 million so it could develop a $1.5 billion complex. Its original plans included condos, but the organization is now looking at hotels, timeshares and entertainment.Plans are still in the works for Astroland to be moved to a new home in Brooklyn. One possible location is said to be Keyspan Park.
