At least 57 towns across New Jersey are violating
state laws on sick and vacation time -- and wasting your money -- according to a new report released
Thursday by state comptroller Kevin Walsh.
The
report found towns such
as Wall allowed employees to cash out sick time before they retired and gave
so-called "boat checks" in leave payouts.
Out of the 60 towns the
comptroller surveyed, 95% were breaking the laws.
"We suspect this is just the tip of the
iceberg," says Walsh. "There should also be a stronger oversight of
these laws."
The comptroller says he
doesn't have a number on how much money was wasted but believes the final
number of towns at-fault could be in the hundreds.
