The aftermath of the flooding across Brooklyn is still being felt a day later.
It’s taken a group effort for residents in “The Hole,” a neighborhood known for its flooding issues, to bounce back.
Many of them were left sweeping the floods and clearing the drains blocked by leaves and trash.
Most of their homes were spared, largely because of renovations they made through the years due to the constant flooding.
"We get a lot of water,” said one resident. “Then we can't go nowhere. We got to be stuck in the house, you know, until the water goes down.”
Even the local mosque was not exempt from the water. There’s still plenty of work to be done before people can return.
"Our mosque had water backed up,” said Mohammed Doha. “The whole basement was flooded from street sewage."
This all comes weeks after the city announced a $140 million investment into a new drainage system to address the chronic flooding in the neighborhood - which sits below sea level.
The city should have a better plan,” said Doha. “Right before the heavy rain, making sure that, you know, these streets are clean, especially the manholes.”
Doha did give credit to DEP for the sewer recently added on the block.
