They?re a part of New York City life, but some Sheepshead Bay residents say pigeons can negatively impact the quality of life in the borough.
Residents and some elected officials say the pigeons are dirty, breed disease and it?s time for the growing problem to be solved.
?It's a problem in south Brooklyn. Before I got elected, my wife was campaigning for me and she was knocking on doors and the biggest complaint was about the pigeons,? said Councilman Domenic M. Recchia Jr. (D-Brooklyn).
Some say they think the way Los Angeles handles the problem would work in New York; that is, putting a form of birth control in bird feed.
No such plan is in the works, but city agencies and community groups say people can help by not feeding pigeons.
