Brooklyn residents and local police officers took a stand against crime in their neighborhoods as part of this evening's National Night Out.

The campaign has people all across the country drawing attention to local anti-crime programs, drug prevention and police-community partnerships.

One local event took place at the Betsy Head Playground in Brownsville. The event offered food, music and games, while teaching about crime prevention. At the event, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly made an appearance with Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Kelly told the crowd crime and murder rates are down in Brownsville since 2001 and that 31 newly-trained officers will soon be serving their neighborhood.

The annual event has been happening for 29 years and is always held on the first Tuesday in August.
