Dozens of Coney Island residents signed a petition in the hopes of restoring express bus service to the area.
Vitaly Slobodskoy told News 12 that it currently takes him an hour and 40 minutes to get to downtown Manhattan from West 5th Street and Neptune Avenue. He started a petition to restore the X29 bus, which was eliminated in 2010.
Slobodskoy is hoping the support from Councilman Mark Treygers will create some momentum for the cause.
"They depend upon the express bus service to bring them to hospitals," said Treygers. "If there are cancer patients that have to go to Sloan Kettering, if there are people who have to go to work..."
The MTA says the X29 was eliminated in 2010 due to low ridership and there are no plans to restore it. They say they can't restore the service because it would redirect part of the route affecting other customers.
Slobodskoy says he plans to keep gathering signatures in the hopes that the MTA will reconsider.
