A building in Brooklyn Heights has been without gas for four weeks, leaving residents frustrated and looking for answers.
Tenant Dillion Winegar says he has spent nearly every day trying to get his gas restored.
Winegar says residents received a buildingwide notice last month indicating the gas would be shut off. Inspectors were supposed to visit the property, but they never arrived.
"By that point, I think I had filed my first 311 complaint, and then nothing happened, nothing got acknowledged," said Winegar. "I filed a second one, nothing happened. I filed another one, and then four days later, on the same day, they both get closed."
Two weeks ago, a spokesperson for National Grid informed News 12 of a gas leak in the building's piping, which led to the shutoff. The spokesperson stated that a plumber would need to repair the leak and that National Grid had notified the building's owner, the City of New York.
Winegar has contacted everyone he can think of, but no one has provided a timeline for when gas service might be restored.
A spokesperson for the city’s Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) department did not provide a timeline for restoring gas service but said they are investigating the issue.
