A memorial motorcycle ride dedicated to the late Det. Russel Timoshenko began on Sunday from Crown Heights.
The 23-year-old detective and his partner were shot after stopping a driver for stolen plates on July 7, 2009. His partner recovered from his injuries, but Timoshenko died in the hospital from a critical wound to the face five days later.
The suspects responsible for the shooting were later captured in Pennsylvania, police say.
Timoshenko was honored at the 71st Precinct with a plaque and tree planted in his name.
His parents, who curated the memorial event, say it helps preserve their son’s memory.
"The pain never goes away, but we're very happy and are honored to have this ride because it shows a lot of people cared for my son and are keeping his memory alive. For us, it means a lot,” said his mother, Tatyana Timoshenko.
