Rikers Island chefs to receive plant-based culinary training thanks to new grant

Culinary training will begin this fall for the chefs working at Rikers Island.

New York City has been awarded a $100,000 grant to provide plant-based culinary training for the chefs at Rikers Island.
The city will partner with nonprofit Hot Bread Kitchen this fall for a five-week course to teach plant-centered cooking skills to kitchen staff at various facilities.
The rollout of new menus will be crafted with input from the Department of Correction.
