A longtime Rite Aid location in Bensonhurst is closing its doors for good on April 30 as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to recover from bankruptcy and long-standing financial struggles.
The store at 8222 18th Ave. is one of several Brooklyn locations shutting down over the past few years. Rite Aid confirmed the closure in a statement, saying, “The decision to close a store is not one we take lightly,” adding that the company is working to become “financially and operationally healthy.”
Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October 2023 and has since been closing underperforming stores across the country. The company says it will continue to fill prescriptions at other locations and online and will try to transfer employees to nearby stores.
The closure comes as another blow to southwest Brooklyn residents, who’ve also seen recent pharmacy shutdowns from other chains, including a Duane Reade location in Sunset Park.
