Riverdale residents are urging the Department of Transportation (DOT) to address traffic conditions at Independence Avenue and West 235th Street. Community activists and parents want the DOT to put up more traffic signs in the area. The demands follow a crash last week in which a woman was hit by a car. There is also a school, a library and a public park situated nearby. DOT officials performed a traffic study in 2009 and refused to install a stop sign. State Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-81st District) says he has sent a letter to the DOT asking for major changes to be made.
