Road Trip Close to Home: 'New York, New Music' exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York
A new exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York looks at the 1980s music era and all its contributions to history and culture. News 12 takes a look inside to see what visitors can expect.
Original posters, advertisements and even an MTV Moon man statue are all displayed for the public to view. New York, New Music looks at the music scene in the city between 1980 and 1986.
Sean Corcoran, curator for the Museum of the City of New York, says there's a wide genre of music including pop and hip-hop that are explored. It took two years to collect all the information and elements for the exhibit.
"We worked with a number of people who were around at the time and integral to the scene," says Corcoran.
With an abundance of photographs featuring guitars and popular clothing to look at, the staff says it is targeted for all generations.
The exhibition wraps up in June of next year. Staff asks visitors to buy a timed ticket beforehand.
