Brooklyn residents fear roadway changes to Ocean Parkway will make the street more dangerous.
Among the changes, New York's DOT is moving to make right turns in the area illegal, claiming it will make the roadway safer. For years, Ocean Parkway has been considered one of the borough's most dangerous roadways.
However, the project has sparked outrage from residents in the area. They say side-roads will be at a standstill and the area noisier.
The project in its entirety is expected to stretch from Ocean Parkway to avenues C, J, P and Kings Highway.
Some local leaders tell News 12 the project will cause more congestion, and ultimately more accidents.
State Assemblyman Dov Hikind says people looking to make a right turn at one intersection will need to get off about two blocks earlier and then take a service road.
The project is expected to cost $15 million.
The signs are currently covered in plastic bags, but the DOT tells News 12 they'll be unveiling the new traffic signs slowly, and you can expect to see traffic changes as early as February.
