Botched robbery leaves 53-year-old man dead in Coney Island

Police say 53-year-old Michael Shelonchik was sitting in the back of a livery cab just after 6 p.m., when two men opened the door and began punching him in the face and head.

Police are searching for two men wanted in connection to a robbery in Coney Island that left a man dead.
Police say 53-year-old Michael Shelonchik was sitting in the back of a livery cab just after 6 p.m., when two men opened the door and began punching him in the face and head.
The suspects then grabbed a chain from around his neck and ran off.
Shelonchik appeared to suffer a medical episode after the attack.
He was pronounced dead at Maimonides Medical Center. The medical examiner will determine his cause of death.
Police describe the suspects as two men in their 20s, wearing black hooded coats and ski masks.
