New technology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County is making big difference for people in Brooklyn.
The medical center is using a highly advanced robotic surgical system to give people a new lease on life.
Amos Sandy was diagnosed with prostate cancer in November, and after thinking through all his options, he decided to go through with a robotic prostatectomy.
"We can make small literally less than 1 cm incisions, and we can put our cameras inside and that allows us to operate more precisely and with less blood loss," says Dr. Andrew Winer.
Dr. Winer says there are many benefits of the new technology.
"Rather than cutting unnecessary things, you can precisely take out just what you want and leave behind all the healthy tissue…it transformed the whole patient experience with regards to surgical precision and recovery."
Sandy says he's feeling great and couldn't be more grateful for Dr. Winer and the robot.
He is recovering well, and is cancer free. "I am blessed to be alive," says Sandy.
