Dozens of residents voiced their concerns about property crime at the Rocky Point Civic Association meeting on Tuesday.
Inspector Matthew McCormick, of the Suffolk County police, says that are larcenies are up 80%.
He attributed a big part of the problem to "societal issues and criminal justice issues." McCormick also says they are also considering larger police presences.
"What we do is based on crime data and trends will float them to certain neighborhoods such as this," McCormick says. "If we develop a trend at a certain time of week and day, and will have them up here at the right place at the tight time."
Some who came out to the meeting say "this entire community is beaten." Others tell News 12 they think the police are overwhelmed.
"We've lived here 41 years and we've never had to worry about locking our cars - we're going to the store at night," one resident said.
A Community Watch Program was also discussed at the meeting.
