Catholics throughout Brooklyn are marking the beginning of Lent this Ash Wednesday. Some Brooklyn residents headed to the Good Shepard Roman Catholic Church in Sheepshead Bay to receive ashes that have been blessed by a priest. The ashes are placed on a parishioner?s forehead in the shape of a cross. The day also means that Easter is just 40 days away. Fasting during Lent is a way for Christians to identify with Jesus in his suffering.
