The 26th annual Throggs Neck Benevolent Association’s 5K Turkey Trot kicked off Saturday, with Thanksgiving just around the corner.
More than 100 runners and their supporters gathered at Orchard Beach to run in the annual race.
The event started in 1995 when a beloved member of the community died from cancer - Geraldine Crowley Crorkin.
"We thought it was a wonderful way to honor her memory,” said Karin O’Connor, of the Throggs Neck Benevolent Association.
Proceeds raised from the race will go towards helping Bronx residents battling various illnesses.
Runners of all ages ran the three-mile race with many being long-time participants.
Anthony O’Rourke finished first among the men with a speed of 18 minutes and not far behind him for the women was Johanna Williams with 22 minutes.
