Rutgers University has released some health protocols for the fall semester as New Jersey deals with COVID-19 and monkeypox.
The university will require masks to be worn “in all indoor teaching spaces, libraries, and clinical settings. Compliance is mandatory.”
Students and university employees will also be required to be fully vaccinated and also obtain a booster when eligible.
Anyone attending an indoor event will be required to show proof of having the COVID-19 vaccine or have a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of the event. However, masks are no longer required to attend such events.
There are no restrictions for outdoor events, according to the university.
Some of the university’s protocols are different than statewide protocols used in New Jersey’s elementary and high schools. Masks are no longer required in K-12 schools. And Gov. Phil Murphy recently signed an executive order stating that school staff who are not vaccinated against the virus will no longer need to be tested.
The university did not issue any specific protocols for the monkeypox virus but said that anyone who shows symptoms or believes they were exposed should contact their health care provider.
