Rye police have warned residents about a suspected car thief after a man was caught on surveillance cameras this morning trying to break into parked vehicles and attempt to open the back door of a Horton Street home.

The city has seen at least 71 unlocked cars stolen from people’s driveways in a five-month period this year.

Police say the man trying to enter a house is an escalation to the crimes and an important reminder to lock cars and houses.
