A safety app is expanding to two Hudson Valley counties and Long Island to offer families free safety notifications.
The Citizen app, which is already used in New York City, gives residents real-time alerts about fires, crime and health emergencies in their neighborhood.
The app is expanding to Rockland and Westchester counties, as well as Long Island.
Users will be able to get safety alerts for free and watch live video from scenes.
The app says it's placed custom-built receivers across the counties it's expanding into to process first responder transmissions and send out real-time safety alerts.
It also says it reports on approximately 6,000 incidents a day across 60 cities in the U.S. and serves over 10 million users.
