Salvation Army helps families in South Bronx in need of food assistance

Bronx residents who spoke with News 12 say the groceries are helping them get through these tough times.

Dozens of volunteers at the Salvation Army in Morrisania handed out hundreds of bags of food to families at its neighborhood pantry on Tuesday – part of what has become a new reality for families during the pandemic.
Bronx residents filled their shopping carts with canned foods, meats and dairy products.
Salvation Army officials say the amount of people they serve at their food pantry has more than doubled since the COVID-19 crisis struck the area.
They say job layoffs and people on a fixed income have led to more families in the South Bronx in need of food assistance and other services.
Bronx residents who spoke with News 12 say the groceries are helping them get through these tough times.
The Salvation Army also provides hot meals on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
