A Brooklyn same-sex family was invited to the White House Easter Egg Roll, marking the first time the president has allotted tickets for gay and lesbian families to participate.
William Scherr and Estevan Garcia, who raise their four children in Park Slope, say they were excited to attend the event openly.
"It's nice to know that we're able to go as a family and not have to hide ourselves or hide our family," Scherr says. Scherr and Garcia have three sons and a daughter.
This year, President Obama provided tickets for the event to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender organizations around the country.
"The idea that you're not crashing the party, they actually invited us this year," Garcia says. "We want the kids to know that they can go any place in the country, including the White House."
