The Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company Chief William Halstead has died.
The company made the announcement on Facebook on Saturday.
They said Halstead responded to a call Friday night then got sick after returning home before he died.
Halstead was with the company since 1965 and was chief since 1978.
The company wrote on the social media post, "we are grateful for his years of service."
