Con artists are already attempting to exploit the 'Cash for Clunkers' program less than a month since it was put in effect.

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) advises residents to beware of potential scams that could rob them of thousands of dollars and their identity. They could also delay people from receiving 'Clunkers' rebates on time.

Schumer says there are scam Web sites that ask customers for personal information to register for the program. He is calling on the Federal Trade Commission to identify and eliminate the sites.

He adds the only way to be sure the program is real is to sign up at a car dealership.
