A Brooklyn school took Black History Month to the stage as part of a special assembly.
Each class at New American Academy Charter School showcased a different black leader or artist as part of their event Tuesday, an assembly weeks in the making.
Students and teachers highlighted leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., Maya Angelou and Ruby Bridges, who students acted out the story of as she worked to desegregate schools.
While the kids got a day that brought their textbooks to life, teachers said that the event should teach their students that your background should not hold you back from inspiring others.
