Many people are paying tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. by participating in a day of service, even heading out of the borough to do so.
Students and other volunteers spent the day at P.S. 55 in the Bronx to give back to local communities.
With the help of local non-profit City Year, volunteers spent the holiday beautifying the public school with several projects, including a painted mural.
City Year partners with public schools across New York to help keep students in school through various programs. Its Martin Luther King Jr. event was just one of the many it plans throughout the year.
