The union representing school bus drivers across Brooklyn and city is now planning only a partial strike.
Local 1181 of the Amalgamated Transit Union says a partial strike would allow buses to keep running for summer school. It also would keep the Department of Transportation from having to implement its contingency plan. However, a representative for the bus companies involved is not happy with the union's latest action.
Contract negotiations between the union and bus companies have stalled. The two sides are arguing over health insurance premiums, which the bus drivers currently do not pay for. The bus companies want the drivers to start contributing 1.5 percent.
