Brooklyn parents rallied Friday to fight the New York State Education Department?s (NYSED) plan to combine two schools. More than 100 parents gathered in protest of the possible inclusion of Khalil Gibran International Academy into P.S. 282. The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) says they already hold students ranging from pre-K to fifth grade. They worry bringing additional students to the school will not only disturb the dynamics of the age groups but it will also compromise the quality of education. Parents also say three years ago, the NYSED removed sixth grade from P.S. 282 because of lack of space. They want to know how there is suddenly enough space now to add a whole additional school to a place that was previously too crammed. The PTA plans to hold an emergency meeting Monday.
