Schumer: More than $22 billion in federal funds headed to New Yorkers in about 2 weeks
Sen. Charles Schumer says more than $22 billion in pandemic aid will be in the hands of New Yorkers in about two weeks.
Nearly 9 million New York households will receive this latest round of direct payments, according to Schumer.
Schumer says the additional round of economic impact payments will mean:
  1. $1,400 for individuals making up to $75,000 per year.
  2. $2,800 for couples making up to $150,000 per year.
  3. Eligible families will also receive an additional $1,400 payment per child and adult dependent, amounting to $5,600 for an average family of four.
In a news release, Schumer broke down statistics for each borough, based on the percentage of total New York State population, using 2020 population data:
  1. In Bronx County, Schumer estimates that approximately 645,696 households will benefit, receiving $1.611 billion in direct payments.
  2. In Kings County, Schumer estimates that approximately 1.172 million households will benefit, receiving $2.925 billion in direct payments.
Schumer says more than 1 in 3 households and half of Black and Latino households are struggling to pay for daily expenses.
“To New York families who have scraped and clawed their way through the past year in dealing with this horrible crisis in so many ways, I am here today to say: help in the form of these checks is soon to be on the way,” Schumer said.
