With this week’s temperatures nearing 100 degrees, some are turning to the city’s cooling centers that opened on Tuesday for relief.
The city’s Office of Emergency Management has opened 18 cooling centers across the city.
One of these centers, the Salvation Army in Bedford-Stuyvesant, opened its doors and helped over 200 New Yorkers cool down on Tuesday.
The OEM says that cooling centers become available once temperatures are expected to reach 95 degrees or higher for two or more days in a row, or if temperatures are expected to hit 100 for one day.
The Salvation Army in Bedford-Stuyvesant is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information on cooling centers around the tri-state area, click here.
