The George Washington Division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Corps took part in their monthly training Saturday morning at SUNY Maritime College in Throgs Neck.
The group is one of over 300 divisions across the nation. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Navy and supported by the Coast Guard.
Children as young as 10 years old can participate. The unit says the program helps build discipline and character.
Instead of a military installation, the space is granted to them by the university, allowing the children to use resources like the gym and classrooms.
Any child can be part of the Sea Cadets as long as they're a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
