A section of a Bed-Stuy street is being co-named in honor of a historic record store.
Nostrand Avenue between Fulton Street and Atlantic Avenue is now "Birdel's Records Way."
The old owner of Birdel's joined local elected officials and community members to make it all official.
A pawn shop now stands where Birdel's used to be. The record store closed over three years ago after being a neighborhood staple for nearly 65 years.
Owner Joe Long says he had to close the shop since he hadn't been making a profit for years. However, he hopes people will always remember what a special place it was.
Council members behind the street naming say the store drew in R&B legends like James Brown, Al Green, Patti Labelle and Barry White.
News 12 is told that Notorious B.I.G. picked out records at Birdel's to sample.
