A Bronx resident is pursuing her passion for baking by going into business for herself.
Evelyn Vargas is a former administration professional who happened to bake a buttercream cake and post it on Facebook. It became an instant hit, and she decided baking would become her new career.
Shortly after, Vargas says she had clients coming to her from the FDNY, NYPD and EMTA. She says she even baked a cake for former Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
When Vargas brought her company, Just Jazzy Cakes 212, to the Pelham Parkway area, she says the family-owned, female-run business began to flourish.
Vargas is a self-taught baker, and says she learned primarily by watching baking shows.
Currently, Vargas operates Just Jazzy Cakes out of her home, but says she's working to find a permanent location.
