Sen. Richard Blumenthal is demanding answers from the Pentagon over conditions on the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, which has spent more than 250 days deployed during operations against Iran.
He says many service personnel are suffering severe physical and mental exhaustion due to food and fresh water shortages, broken plumbing and other issues.
"These kinds of abhorrent, devastatingly bad conditions on an aircraft carrier endanger the crew by increasing mental stress and also undermine our national defense," Blumenthal said on Saturday.
President Donald Trump dismissed the reports by saying family members are "not worried" and that the nine-month deployment is "not nearly long enough."
