Sen. Richard Blumenthal has formally invited NBA superstar Kyrie Irving to Bridgeport to meet with the city’s kids.
"My letter basically says to Kyrie Irving, you can make a difference, you're a role model," Blumenthal says.
A Bridgeport volunteer championed the cause, which gained traction over the months.
"I'm excited and I hope it happens soon because basketball season starts in October," says Marilyn Young.
"I feel awesome. You know, I'm always upbeat, so I believe and my faith tells me that he will come," says Harry Bell of Color A Positive Thought.
Young adds that she hopes Irving will visit the high schools in Bridgeport and remind kids that sports are great, but education should always come first.
