U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand announced on Monday a plan that would invest in the fight against Lyme disease.
"I am pushing for nearly $200 million to support research and programs that address Lyme disease," explained Gillibrand.
Lyme disease is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected black-legged tick, also known as a deer tick.
Officials say Suffolk County reported the highest number of cases in the county from 2019 to 2022.
"Our county really needs this, it's important," says Legislator Ann Welker representing Suffolk's 2nd District.
Symptoms of the Lyme disease include brain fog, extreme fatigue and joint pain.
Experts say if you are experiencing any symptoms, contact your doctor.
