A program that assists victims of sexual assaults is expanding beyond Brooklyn to the rest of the city.
The Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) brings together rape counselors and forensic experts at hospitals to handle the cases. More than 200 rape and sexual abuse cases have been treated at six Brooklyn public hospitals in a test run of the program. The mayor says it's all about reaching victims quickly and getting the evidence critical to prosecuting the attackers. The program will now be available at every public hospital in Brooklyn in addition to the rest of the city.
