Sheepshead Bay residents say water has been gushing out of the road for months.
News 12 cameras captured the water bubbling up out of the ground on Voorhies Avenue. The water was seen flowing between East 26th Street and East 27th Street into the catch basin.
“I have seen it leaking from the ground for the last four or five months already," Sheepshead Bay resident Jeff Levy said.
Users on social media also weighed in, sharing concerns over the possibility of the leak getting worse.
"I am expecting a sink hole there shortly if the leak is not repaired," one user wrote.
Other neighbors told News 12 they are concerned about how much water is flowing out.
It’s like a river," Sheepshead Bay resident Irina Pakina said. "Imagine how much water is wasted for nothing.”
While the cone over the leak reads "National Grid," the agency says it may have been placed by a local resident, and there are currently no outages and no service has been impacted by this leak.
After the News 12 cameras rolled, the city's Department of Environmental Protection looked into the leak and found that it's coming from a private home. The property owner has been issued a repair notice.
