Sheepshead Bay residents are fed up with what they say is excess trash outside of a home that has drawn rodents and other animals to their block.
Neighbors say the trash at the home on Ford Street has been an ongoing issue for at least two years, and they say it brings unwanted animals to the area.
As News 12 cameras were rolling, a tenant living in the home, who neighbors say is responsible for the trash, began to clean it up. The tenant did not say why he keeps the trash outside.
Neighbors say whenever the tenant removes the bags of trash, the home goes right back to being cluttered. They say that they have filed numerous complaints with 311 with hopes for a permanent solution but add that calls to 311 have gone unanswered.
A spokesperson for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene responded to News 12's inquiries about the house, saying, "The NYC Health Department has issued two orders to abate the conditions on this property. We will conduct a follow-up inspection in coming days."
The city's Department of Sanitation also says it must follow rules and laws because the home is a private property, but says it has notified its enforcement team, which is looking into the situation.
