Sheepshead Bay is among several neighborhoods being monitored for a rise in COVID-19 cases, as young students head back to school for their first day.
Students arrived at P.S. 149 in Sheepshead Bay with their masks on, as the Department of Health announced Monday the zip code is one of nearly a dozen neighborhoods that have seen COVID-19cases spike, sending the infection rate above 3%.
At P.S. 149, teachers say they have a separate entrance for each grade level. Social distancing will be enforced in the staircases with staff members monitoring the children. Everyone's temperature will be checked, and they feel the custodial staff has done a good job of cleaning the buildings.
All of these things will be very important as this area and neighboring communities are seeing a spike in coronavirus cases. Neighboring Gravesend and Homecrest have a nearly 7% positivity rate.
